RAJBOORI, regal, colourful, luxe, hand-crafted. A new Collection of home design textiles from well-known Industrial Designer Stephen Burks of Readymade Projects and home textile industry veteran, Mitun Chakrabarti. Together, they have created a new brand of eco-friendly, unique, artisanal silk fabrications that are as beautiful and sustainable as they are eminently-suited for all kinds of modern living. A perfect blend of design authenticity and exquisite fabric selection underscore the product’s unmistakable panache.
ECO-FRIENDLY
Peace Silk is eco-friendly. No silkworms are harmed in obtaining the silk. In case of non-Peace Silk, about 15 silkworms are killed to produce a gram of silk and 1,500 silk worms are killed to get a metre of woven silk material. In case of Peace Silk, the moths are allowed to emerge from their cocoons to live out their full life cycle. The silk is degummed and spun like other fiber, instead of being reeled.
RARE
Peace Silk is made from the cocoons of wild or semi-wild silkworms found exclusively in India. It is rare and not readily commercially available.
SUSTAINABLE
RAJBOORI contributes to the sustainability of the artisan community and their ancient trade. The fabric is meticulously handcrafted by expert artisans into desired patterns and weaves. It is then stitched together by master artisans to create the RAJBOORI collection of home textiles. Their jacquards are woven in rare looms that have ten paddles that need to be monitored each step of the way to ensure accuracy of the pattern.
ENERGY EFFICIENT
The Peace Silk is dyed with organic dyes in RAJBOORI's specified colours and dried in an energy efficient manner, using the abundant sunshine available in India.
FUN FACT
To get the desired softness and lustre, another set of artisans beats the woven silk with hammers made out of tamarind wood.
CARE
Peace Silk in general is washable in very mild detergent, delicate cycle or hand wash. However, dry clean is recommended.
